"Dear Heather, Thank you so very much for your inspiring book "Eating for IBS." It's a life saver! I just bought it today! Again, I can't thank you enough for this wonderful and lifesaving book. I hope you will write another book filled with delicious recipes. You may quote me in your website Reader Review section. I will also write to Oprah, Katie Couric and Barbara Walters to help you get on their shows. I thought you might find this of interest, too. My husband had a doctor's appointment last night. He showed your book to the doctor and she was very impressed with it. She said she would get a copy herself, and recommend it to her other IBS patients. She sent her thanks to me through him. Sincerely,"

"Heather, Thank you so much, you must be an Angel! Just finding a site such as yours just shows me that I'm not alone. I have gone from being a very fit athletic individual with a promising career as a Police Officer to a prisoner in my own home. I have lost 16 kilograms in about 3 months and I live in fear of my next meal. I won't go on as I know you must have heard this all before, but I'm just so excited that I've found your information. I am about to purchase your first book and I have just sent a message to Oprah, she needs to hear from people like you. I can't express enough just how relieved I am to find somebody who knows so much about this problem. My body has taken a beating but my mind has taken so much more. I have gotten to the stage where I'm simply not myself anymore and I'd just about given up hope of finding an answer or leading a normal life but I feel so much more confident now having read your information. Already things are looking up simply due to you. I have no problem at all with quoting my letter on your site and I hope that somebody might be able to relate to my particular circumstances. For now I'm off to the shops with a list of your suggestions. Thanks Heather. Please keep up the good work and I hope to see you on Oprah and similar shows very soon. Regards,"

"I want to tell you how much I have enjoyed reading your book, Eating for IBS. There are many wonderful recipes I am excited to try. I really have learned so much from the "new way to eat" section of your book. Out of all the books I have seen, nothing has been as informative as this part of your book for me. Thank you so much,"

"Dear Miss Van Vorous: I am 22 years old, and I live in Trinidad in the Caribbean. I have recently been diagnosed with IBS. The first gastronenterologist I went to said I had Ulcerative Colitis, and put me on high steroids and very expensive medication, which basically made me put on about 20 lbs. and made me more depressed than ever. I did a lot of reading and I was confused that I was gaining weight (even with the steroids, I was told that I should be losing weight rapidly) and not getting any better. My company doctor sent me to another specialist, who was very thorough. She looked at the colonoscopy report done by the first doctor and said that it was NOT colitis. I went on powerful antibiotics, then other medicine, and took another colonoscopy. It seemed miraculous then that both the colonoscopy and the endoscopy were clear, and so were the biopsies. I could not understand at all, but then the doctor said I have IBS. My life has drastically changed since I developed these symptoms. I do not party or drink alcohol, and I avoid going out, (trust me, this is VERY different than my lifestyle 1 year ago). I would very much welcome any other information concerning IBS, and I am going to order your book right now. I would also like to maybe write about my own experiences, because I have suffered a lot over the past year, and it's not easy for a 22 year old to get her life just cut to pieces. Now that I have been diagnosed properly I feel more hopeful. I like to read other peoples stories and would welcome the chance to share mine. Thank you,"

"Dear Ms. Van Vorous, I recently went home to visit my mother and found her 20 pounds lighter, distraught, depressed, hungry, and in the bed all day. She had been diagnosed with IBS and you would of thought someone had told her she had cancer with one week to live. She was provided with no information or pamphlets to read and was taking various medicines, to no avail, that wouldn't stay in her system long enough to be absorbed. Upon traveling back home, I began researching this illness on the internet and found your web site. It has been the most informative piece of work I have found. We would like to thank you for all the work you have done and for sharing so much valuable information. May God continue to bless you and keep you for I truly believe your information will be instrumental in turning my mother's life around. With heartfelt appreciation,"

"Hello Heather. I could not resist sending you a note after coming across your website tonight, and learning of the work you have done for IBS. My 20 year old daughter was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis when she was 16. You have heard this all before, I am sure. The lack of quality information from the medical community is frightening. You are literally on your own attempting to make some logical sense out of all the conflicting information sent your way. My daughter has dealt with tremendous challenges. At this point, she is just about completely macrobiotic in her eating. She is learning more and more creative eating all the time, no thanks to the medical community. I am a social worker by profession and keep wondering how to connect with other families out there who are just devastated with the illnesses in the IBS/IBD family. I know there is so much more education to be done, but how to do it is the question. If my daughter would have followed the advice or lack of it from the medical community, I am convinced she would be an emotional and physical wreck at this point. Instead, she is enjoying her college life and even talking about teaching in Japan. Keep up the great work you are doing. I was very intrigued about your work with businesses in regard to their employees. If you have any ideas for me or if I can help you on the East Coast with your work let me know. Bless you for what you are doing."

Barbara Miller, mother of Ulcerative Colitis Sufferer

"Heather, Thank you, thank you, thank you for your informative, wonderful book. Recently, finally diagnosed with IBS, it has been a challenge trying to find things I can actually eat without pain and discomfort, without worrying about if I'll be running to the bathroom, or when my next bowel movement will actually be! Your recipes are a Godsend. I recently made several loaves of bread from the bread chapter, and all were a big hit with the whole family. The Orange Blossom bread, was, hands-down, the winner! I love to cook again, and plan to work my way through the entire book! Thanks again for caring about all of us with this tricky and much misunderstood problem! I'll do anything I can to help spread the word of your 'good deeds'. This illness needs to be exposed and understood, by EVERYONE. I'd be glad to write letters, or whatever else you need. I'll make the time. Your advocacy of awareness about this subject is admirable and special. I'm eagerly awaiting your next book!"
