Hello -

Celiac disease is often misdiagnozed as IBS. But celiac is not a brain-gut dysfunction at all.

Celiac is an autoimmune disorder triggered by consuming gluten, a protein that's found in wheat, rye and barley.

When someone with celiac eats gluten, their immune system mistakenly attacks the lining of the small intestine. This leads to damage that impairs nutrient absorption.

While celiac can cause classic GI symptoms like diarrhea, abdominal pain, and bloating, it can also lead to non-GI symptoms such as iron deficiency anemia, joint pain, rashes and recurrent miscarriages.

And more about IBS vs celiac...

You are not alone!
