Hello -

A new review study evaluated the impact of different types and intensities of physical exercise on the gut microbiota and symptom relief of IBS.

The study found that aerobic exercise, resistance training, and combined training offer unique benefits for gut health and symptom management.

Aerobic exercise positively affected the gut microbiota in IBS patients.

Regular aerobic exercise enhanced the diversity and abundance of beneficial gut bacteria, improving gut health. This included boosting short chain fatty acid production, particularly butyrate, which supports colon health and reduces inflammation.

This can help bloating, abdominal pain, gas and diarrhea.

Resistance exercise showed promise for gut health by enhancing the gut barrier's integrity, which helps prevent gut inflammation.

The study concluded that integrating aerobic and resistance exercises into standard IBS treatment protocols could enhance therapeutic outcomes and improve the quality of life for IBS patients.

And more about exercise and IBS...
