Your gut goes through a lot on airplane flights. Your digestion is likely to get entirely out of whack, with severe bloating and gas common.

Why is this, and what can you do about it?

'Your gastrointestinal tract is like a long tube and any gas trapped in there will expand and put more pressure on it,' explains Dr Megan Rossi, AKA The Gut Health Doctor, a registered dietitian and researcher in gut health at King's College London.

This excess gas is expected given the atmospheric pressure in the plane. Just think of your ears or a water bottle popping. That's happening because the air is being squeezed into a tight space and in your gut, that can be a very uncomfortable fit.
