Hello -

A thin, narrow poo could be a sign of multiple problems.

If your stool is narrow it may resemble a ribbon or a pencil. In the majority of cases, this is just a sign of constipation.

But - thin stools can also be a sign of bowel obstructions, such as tumors. Narrow stools that occur infrequently are not a cause for concern. But if you experience ribbon-like stools for more than a week, see your doctor.

The Mayo Clinic in the US advises that: "IBS may cause changes in the size of your stools. Narrow stools that happen now and then probably are harmless. But ribbon or pencil thin stools can be a sign that the colon is narrowing or has a blockage. And that could be due to colon cancer."

If you know it's IBS constipation, get help for that here.
