Here's a suggestion on how to fix this recipe. I think it would come out fine without any butter/margarine cut into the flour. Here are a few changes that would make this totally safe.
Quote:
2 cups flour 2 Tbsp. granulated sugar 1 Tbsp. CALUMET Baking Powder 2 tsp. ground cinnamon, divided 1 tsp. salt 1/4 cup soy margarine 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce 2 egg whites or 1/4 cup Egg Beaters 3/4 cup soy or rice milk, divided 2 cups chopped apples 1/2 cup chopped PLANTERS Walnuts 1/3 cup firmly packed brown sugar 1 cup sifted powdered sugar MIX flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, 1 tsp. of the cinnamon and salt. (Omit butter step) WHISK egg, applesauce, and 2/3 cup of the soy/rice milk until well blended. Add to flour mixture; mix just until moistened. Spread into greased 9-inch square baking pan. MELT 1/4 cup soy margarine. Mix with apples, walnuts, brown sugar and remaining 1 tsp. cinnamon; spoon over batter. BAKE at 375°F for 45 to 50 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. MIX powdered sugar and remaining milk. Add additional teaspoons of milk to achieve desired drizzling consistency, if necessary. Drizzle over cake. KRAFT KITCHENS TIPS
Food Facts Granny Smith, Cortland and Northern Spy are apple varieties that would taste great in this coffee cake. source: www.kraftfoods.com
