For your doc to make that statement, I sure hope that he/she intends to follow-up with the big quesiton...why? I would not rest easy being told that, with no follow-up as to why. Maybe a biopsy or follow-up colonoscopy (not too soon, just to see if inflammation is gone) or even sigmoidoscopy (although that only looks at the last part of the colon, but is less invasive).
