I saw a PA for quite awhile. She was a very nice lady, very understanding, very compassionate -- but she ended up not really doing much for me. I think if my situation weren't so complicated she would've been fine, but she clearly didn't know what to do with me. I didn't get anywhere until I switched to an MD in the same practice.
There's nothing wrong with going to a PA, and some of them are probably better doctors than the ones with the MD or DO degree, but if you have complicated health problems I'd hesitate to use one as your PCP.
Oh, and I ran into the issue where my insurance company at the time wouldn't let me use a PA as my PCP (it was an HMO so I had to have a PCP to get anything done), so I had to use the doctor that my PA worked under as my PCP, and then I'd have problems with referrals because the PA would sign the referral and not the MD who was technically my PCP, so the insurance company would deny the cost of the visit because I "didn't have a referral in place". Arrgghh!
Anyway. Just wanted to say what my experience was.
