I wish I had better suggestions than what your doctor said, but I don't. My mother used to get inner-ear infections all the time, and all she ever did was rest, fluids, and antibiotics. And don't drive. Unfortunately, that's all you can do. Although, her doctor never said anything about not sleeping on the infected ear. Maybe try some dramamine for the dizziness?
