I am guessing we are about the same hair color from your photo. I usually go a shade or two darker than my natural color so it is a dark brown with red tones. My colorist recommends me not having washed my hair the day before I come in to have it colored. For some reason it helps hold the color better and since I am getting it shampooed there after the color it's clean again. When we do the shampoo it done with warm water...not hot and not cold. We use a color treated formula shampoo and deep conditioner since it seems to hold the color better. Then apply a protein spray, color and heat protection spray for the blow out.
I can honestly say that waiting then 48-72 hours to wash my hair after the color helps it last longer. I wash it with a gentle color treated shampoo and rinse with warm water. I do have some trace for the first two shampoos- part of which I guess is coming off the scalp according to my colorist and not the hair. I keep using a protein spray and heat protectant every time I wash and dry my hair. The plus is that since I switched to her I don't have to color my hair except for every eight to ten weeks! Much better than the normal 5 weeks I had been doing it. Let me know if you want to know the products that I have been using. Hope this helps.
