I know nothing about cortisol and anxiety/panic/sleeplessness, but I just wanted to note that it has been shown that cortisol levels are often reversed for people with IBS - that is, they are high in the day when they should be low, and vice versa. So you are not alone in this. Do a search in Heather's research library - there is a research study on this very point. This week I am taking an adrenal stress test (via several saliva samples taken over the course of the day) to measure what I think might be a related thing (I could might be wrong here). My herbalist is thinking that if my test shows my levels are similarly wonky, then she'll give me herbs to try to sort them out. Or something like that. Anyway, try not to panic too much (I know, easy for me to say). Maybe try to look at it as good information for your doctors to have - more proof that your health problems aren't "all in your head".
