Well, I have been following the election from afar and I found it very interesting that the Conservatives got back in. I just think the whole sponsorship scandal left too big an opening for the Conservatives. One thing you have to remember in politics is that most political parties run to the center in a campaign but then when they get in they have to appease their "base." In this case, with a minority government, I think it will be tought for Harper to get everything he wants. Then again, I am an outsider looking in.
One thing I do hope for is better relations between our two countries. It was getting a little old to hear Martin bash the U.S. all the time. As for not being a mini-US, that comment is ok by me. I wouldn't want all the policies you guys have either. As my father-in-law told me (and he is Canadian) if you had to choose another neighbour to the south of you, who would you want? Russia, China, France? And it goes the other way too, I wouldn't want anyone else to the north of me but Canada. But friends can disagree without insults and that what Martin did all the time for political points. I am happy he is O-U-T.
