Advice needed about ear problem

Anyone know how you ever resolve the problem of fluid in your ear? I had a bad sore throat and congestion over New Year's and was on an antibiotic (Z pack), so I would think I wouldn't have this problem, but now the congestion has settled in my right ear. I cannot hear out of it at all!

My boys had this problem when they were little (we all have small estauchian tubes), but they would usually have an earache. I don't have pain, but I'm tired of being half deaf!!!! ANd it's uncomfortable, like someone stuffed the right side of my head with a wad of cotton.

I've been taking Mucinex and a small dose of decongestant, and today, I was so desperate that I took some Claritin too.

I read online that the fluid usually goes away on its own. Do any of you have any experience with this? Is that true---or should I see a doctor?

I don't understand why I have this problem when I was on an antibiotic last week. I guess I'm saying that I don't want to go to the doctor if he's going to say there's nothing he can do about it~ That will be a waste of money!!!!
