As far as clothes, if it's not casual, comfortable and classy, I don't wear it. Pre-IBS, I wore jeans all the time, but now I'm usually in a pair of black pants with a solid color shirt. I don't ever buy prints---and I absolutely love LINEN (the look and feel of it.) I don't mind the way it wrinkles, because I feel like the more it wrinkles, the better it looks! I have a closet full of linen shirts in every color you could imagine. Most of them are long, to cover my tummy and behind. If you've ever been to a J Jill store, that has ME written all over it! I guess I'm pretty Gap-y, especially for a 45-year-old.
As far as furniture goes, my style is Restoration Hardware/Pottery Barn. I can't tolerate patterns in furniture/bedding either (I hate wallpaper). The interior of my house is painted a greyish green. I have a bomber-jacket brown leather sofa with a tufted back and nail trim, a dark chocolate brown chair and ottoman, and lots of black accents. I love adding punch to a room with black.
In my bedroom, I have a queen-size wrought iron canopy bed from Mexico paired with new furniture (black stained with pewter pulls.) Stainless steel adjustable reading lamps on the table, a khaki matlasses coverlet, and lots of pillows complete the look. The only color in this room is a pillow (a black floral print with green, white and clay.) I've been known to plan an entire decorating scheme around a pillow!
The master bath has khaki colored LINEN drapes above the corner tub, a fluffy shag black and taupe rug, and oversized jars filled with cotton balls, pretty soaps, cotton swabs. Did I mention big fluffy WHITE towels? I wanna feel like I'm at a resort. We are going to paint the white cabinets a glossy black soon!
We had our kitchen countertops redone in the big (12 X 12 inch) taupe ceramic tiles (on the diagonal on the backsplash) and had an island made for the center (black stained) and added a granite top. I put in a black sink and new knobs on the cabinets---and I love my kitchen now!
I love picture frames. I have no "artwork" on my walls that I bought. Everything on my walls is personal---family photos and artwork my son has done (the one in art school.)
And clocks---I buy them even if they don't work. Goodwill is one of my favorite places!!!
I used to be a neat freak (before my back problems began), but now I have to rely on someone else to clean my house. I still can't stand it, though, if anything is out of place! I drive my hubby and sons crazy with this!!!
