I agree that tanning beds can be dangerous when overused but if you use common sense and not try to become brown then they are safe- just like being outside. The nice thing about tanning for the sunlight in winter is that it is warm and relaxing. I do 10 minutes once a week and I find that I feel better about myself since I don't look so white and fat and I am ready to go outside in the early summer since I work outside- I don't worry about burning then. It is vanity but when I go shopping and try clothes on I hate to see myself all white when I look in the mirror- it is so depressing! So being tan (but not very tan just a light tan) helps with that. Also this diet has finally gotten the stubborn pounds off.
But snowshoeing, cross country skiing or walking outside is the best thing for SAD.
