Hi All,
I'm not sure if this is the right forum, but here's my problem anyway.
I have been having pain attacks for a few years which happen after a few months or sometimes a year. During the attack I feel an urge to burp, feel vomity, have an unbearable feeling of constipation and of something trapped in the region above my stomach (the horizontal part of the large intestine). Usually they give me painkillers to kill the pain, and the next day I am perfectly alright.
So, a reknowned doctor diagnosed me as having IBS by simply feeling slowly around my abdomen. He gave me a long list of pills to consume (pills for motility, spasms and stuff like that) and also a tri-cyclic anti-depressant. For the next year I felt great! I kept taking those medicines and avoided fatty and spicy foods. After sometime I got a bit careless with the medicines and started taking them off and on.
Suddenly on new years eve I got a severe diarrhea attack with mild vomiting. I got extremely watery stools, but there was no pain this time. I rushed to the hospital and they put me on an anti-biotic drip and glucose. Now I have started taking the same old medicine again for the past few days and am feeling good.
What really bothers me is that whenever I have the pain attacks, I have a high WBC count, and the doctors at the emergency say that it's because of some infection.
So my question is, is it ok to have a high WBC count during an IBS attack? Am I having an overlapping problem here? I really don't understand... please help.
Thanks.
