I would say that getting D but not like before you started the med is a big improvement. I have definitely had that happen to me and was delighted! Over time, I think the cramping and urgency will be reduced also. You could also tell your doctor it's helping some and ask if a higher dose would work even more.
I don't think the drug prolongs the episode. I've gotten used to dealing with occasional cramping with no D following. Happened just last night actually. I took an Imodium to calm my gut then went back to bed with my heating pad on my tummy. Worked like a charm!!
