Bagel, pasta and chicken breast are GREAT things to eat with IBS. Just watch out what you're having with them - cut out the butter, mayo, high-fat or dairy containing sauces, etc.
Heather recommends going on the "What to eat when you can't eat anything" diet for a few days to give your tum a chance to settle down. This means nothing but soluble fibre foods. So bread, pasta, rice, potatoes, carrots, papaya, mango, bananas, avocado, etc (the full list of soluble fibre foods is on this site, but I can't remember where - sorry! ). And remember that it's NOTHING but soluble fibre foods (boring, but it's only for a few days). Cut out coffee, caffeine, fizzy drinks, artificial sweeteners and dairy products. Although it can feel harsh, cutting them out cold-turkey is the best way to go I think. And get a soluble fibre supplement (but start at a low dose).
Just checking...what tests have you had? Are you D (diarrhoea predominant), C (constipation predominant) or A (alternating)?
Oh, and welcome! You're lucky to find this place straight after diagnosis - it's the best!
