I totally understand what you're saying! That's how I feel and I'm always blaming myself because I honestly believe that although I've always noticed some mild stomach problems in the past (that would get worse when I was not at home) I feel like I made it worse by doing something bad to my body, out of sheer choice.
But like you, now that I actually HAVE something wrong (the IBS) but better with the whole ED issue, my family is way more...not "suspicious", but just more on my case. What a wonderful cycle.

The only thing that I can say is that if your dad had a spastic colon himself then it may help him to clue in to what you're going through. However, since his just "got better" he may assume the same thing will happen to you. Have you got an "official" diagnosis from your doctor/GI. If you have then just be straight with him and tell him you've been diagnosed with IBS and if he wants to know more, then he can ask you or do some research himself.

If you just STRONGLY SUSPECT it's IBS just tell him that you've been to the doctor numerous times and he/she highly suspects you have a condition called IBS. Without going into details, let him know you have digestive problems in which your doctor has recommended you take the medication/supplements that he saw. I figure that should be enough info for him to get/understand what's going on.
