Someone told me that it was the intestines thinking that they're are irritated (with the fecked up IBS nervous sytem down there! ) and so producing mucus to try and sooth things down. But there's no actual irritation in the first place!

Also, I think it's partly when your BMs kinda separate into hard bits and mucus instead of normal poo!
