Nope. That hasn't happened to me. I've taken almost an entire bottle and am ready to go for my second bottle. I take 6 capsules a day.
I have high cholesterol, and this stuff is going to "cure" me! Or I'm gonna die trying.
Have you ever heard of Dr. Dean Ornish? He's THE WORD on women's heart health and Clinical Professor of Medicine at U.C.S.F., also an attending physician at the California Pacific Medical Center. He's the best-selling author of several books about women's heart health and reversing heart disease. This is what he says about flax seed oil:
Quote:
Flax seed oil contains one of the richest sources of omega fatty acids, far more than fish oils. Some of the fatty acids in flax seed oil (omega 3 - ALA, omega 6 - LA, omega 9 - OA) have been shown to help prevent and reverse plaque and heart attack risk.
Women have no problem with taking 3-4 grams a day of flax seed oil. For men, however, the issue is not quite as clear. In December, 1998, it was announced at an Ornish residential retreat that some recent research findings indicate that it may raise the risk of prostate cancer in some men. No additional risk is known for women. Males should understand this potential risk when deciding to take flax seed oil.
Much as we want a definitive answer, at this point the jury is still out on the risks versus the benefits of flax seed oil for men. For women, however, flax seed oil does appear to provide potential benefits without additional risk.
Like your fiance, I also have high blood pressure. I've reduced it drastically, but I attribute that to the blood pressure medication I'm taking rather than the flax seed oil.
Janice, I'd really look at what else you had besides the fish oil that might have caused your attack. I too am a "D" and I had a surprising attack yesterday that I couldn't attribute to anything I had eaten. I figured it was all about self-induced stress, which I thought I had gotten over but apparently have not. Damn.
Anyway, do you get attacks from salmon? If not, I'd give the flax seed oil another chance. I'll bet there was something else going on with you yesterday.
Good luck, and hope you're better soon,
Bev
