Hi, I thought I'd put in my 2 cents, too. I have had IBS since 1990, on and off. But in January, my kids got a nasty virus (throwing and going). I started having frequent diarrhea (many times a day). I also had sharp cramps and lots of gurgly noises. I lost 12 pounds and was miserable. The doctor put me on a medicine to slow my system down (Donnatol) but it didn't cure me. They did a stool sample, etc. Eventually, after about 8 weeks of misery they did a colonoscopy. They found some inflammation (colitis) and put me on a medicine called Colazol, which I have to take for two months. I felt better quickly. I am now really trying to eat better (w/ ideas from Heather's book) and help my IBS at the same time.Good luck. Oh, one more thing - with all your diarrhea, you should make sure you are getting electrolytes (like a gatorade type drink) since you might be dehydrated and make sure you are taking a multi-vitamin since the diarrhea is probably not allowing you to get proper nutrition. I'm not a doctor, but I play one on tv (only kidding - just a fellow sufferer).
