Speaking of chewey--I remember when we lived in our other house and a neighbor would go free diving off the coast of California for abalone. Well, she knew we loved it so she gave us one already sliced. So I pounded the bejeebies out of it (you have to) and followed the recipe she gave me. Dan and I sat down to eat it, we each put a piece of it in our mouths, started to chew it, and chew it, and chew it, and chew it...then we just looked at each other and laughed. It was so darn chewey (I cooked it too long--you just have to introduce it to the heat and it's cooked and I didn't know that). Because we liked abalone so much and we knew how expensive it was to buy, we just chewed our way through the whole thing. It was tasty but it sure was chewey. My jaws hurt for a week afterward!
