Welcome, ihateibs!

I hate to hear stories like you trying to commit suicide over this. It's too bad we weren't here for you when you were 17. It angers me that doctors don't help patients when they give them an IBS diagnosis, because it's not the end of the world, not by a long shot. In fact, we CAN get this in remission -- it takes a long time and a lot of hard work, but we CAN DO IT! Check this out: Remission Story

You need to first get yourself stable (that's where the rice and yams come in). No, you're not going to have to eat rice and yams for the rest of your life. You have to take one step at a time; don't rush things. Once you're stable, you start adding in fruit and veggies, safely and slowly.

Okay, it's true, there are some things you'll never eat again: disgusting rotting carcass of dead cows and dead pig, fat-ridden dairy products, addictive coffee, etc. But trust me, you won't want that stuff when you get stable and begin to feel healthy again. And, yes, I'm including those quarter-pounders with cheese and french fries and chocolate shakes. YUK PAH-TEWEY!

I eat carrots all the time -- in my incredible home made vegetable soup. I make the most marvelous green apple pie that hubby and I love. (However, I'm on a sugar-free diet right now, so no pie for me.) As for the eggplant, well, sorry, but I hate the stuff.

Just to prove my point, go into the Recipe Board and check out all the phenomenal IBS-safe recipes. You'll be blown away. You want goodies? Check out the ADBs and RKTs! (Those are brownies and Rice Krispy Treats -- yeah! See what I mean?)

If you don't have Heather's book, "The First Year," get it. You'll need it. It's our bible, and we all follow it to the letter. When you stick with the program, and stop cheating (I cheated, I kept drinking that awful coffee stuff), you'll get better real fast.

You'll get better even faster when you keep asking questions in here -- this is a group of incredibly knowledgeable folks who have been where you are right now and understand everything you're going through.

You came to the right place. Again, welcome to the Boards!

Bev
