Hormones play a role, but so could the pregnancy itself...

There is a hormonal factor in IBS (check the research library under the gender section for studies). But the development of IBS after pregnancy might instead be because the pregnancy/delivery (especially if by C-section) caused a physical insult to the gut. This is often the precipitating factor in the development of IBS. Some outside factor (stomach flu, dysentery, abdominal surgery, traumatic colonoscopy, pregnancy) traumatizes the nervous system of the gut, and though the initial "insult" is recovered from and physically disappears, the nervous system itself remains dysfuctional from the trauma. The result is IBS.
