Hello everyone!!
I just wanted to take this moment to quickly introduce myself. My name is Dana and I was diagnosed in December with IBS-D after the birth of my daughter. I always had a problem with constipation in the past, but it was usually nothing that increased fiber could not remedy. After I had my daughter, and I mean just a few days after, I began having diarrhea. I finally sought the help of a GI who ran all of the usual tests, stool samples, colonoscopy, lower GI, blood tests etc.. All was normal. I completely and totally sympathize with all of you who have had less than acceptable treatment from their GI's, as my experience was traumatic. I was so depressed during this time because I had no idea what was happening to my body. All I knew was that I felt like I had the stomach flew 24/7 and I was having a hard time taking care of my baby. I let him know this because I was at my wits end and I thought him being a specialist, he would be able to put my mind at ease. He told me basically that it was ridiculous for me to be feeling any form of depression from this syndrome and if I wasn't so stressed out I would not have gotten it in the first place. I tried to expalin that I didn't start feeling stressed until AFTER I began having all of the D and had no idea what was wrong with me. He treated me like I was wasting his time with my silly IBS issues. I left his office feeling worse(if that were possible) than I did to begin with.
Because I received no information about IBS from my GI specialist who SPECIALIZES in this stuff (I am still a little bitter), I began researching IBS on the internet. I came across Heathers web site and found all of my answers!! I immdiately bought both of her books and started cooking. I have been on the diet for about a month and a half and I feel soooo much better. I now occasionally swing to far to the other side. I guess I am now an IBS A, probably because I am still working on increasing my soluable fiber dosage and water intake.
OK, so I think I wrote a little more than I thought I would. I hope I didn't bore you too much. I do have one quick question. Has anyone else experienced their symptoms after childbirth or C-Section. I have read a little about IBS and it's possible connection to reproductive hormones. Maybe I should have my hormone levels checked. Oh goody - more tests.
BTW, you guys are the best. I have been reading all of the posts and I have never come across a group of people who are more supportive than you guys. Ok, I am really going to go now.
