Let me know how you get on with your son's IEP, results and treatment plan at the school. Has an IEP been established for him? In that, the IEP should also outline steps to assist your son's processing and long term memory retention. The child in my class (male, 13 years) has problems with short term memory, though some of these strategies may help: info needs to be cut up into smaller steps (too much info in one go and it's hard to remember - long or short term.) Cues are also very good for the child to establish with the teacher. I have a signal with this child that helps to remind him to get back on task. We also have 'organisational' tools to assist him eg colour coding his classes with his notebooks and timetable, writing down homework in 2 different books etc. The resources given to your child should also be modified to suit his needs - the presentation of it needs to be engaging and not overloading. IN terms of long term memory - getting into a home routine will help him - eg working together to underline key points and then revising them - a lot of talk etc. A good structured routine also helps so it becomes a 'habit' almost and not a strategy or just something else to remember.

Oh - all of our students with aspergers also have slotted hours where a teacher aide is present to assist them in class and with organisation/routines.
