Thanks for your replies everyone.
Syd: I tried my local bakers delight who did not have sourdough - but thanks for the name of it. I will call them and find out which stores are baking it on a regular basis. Even if I have to drive further to stock up!

I will endevour to keep trialing bread - as today I had a french stick again at lunch and it has been ok. So perhaps it was the smoked mussells, & or margarine combo that just tipped the balance?
Incidentally - the mussells were in oil ... but fat content on pack was quite low .... mmmm??
Anyway - I'll continue to trial the bread because I really really want to be able to have 'normal' breads.
That GF stuff is really not up to the task I'm afraid, not to mention that it's hard to get and totally improssible to get at any take aways or restaurants!!!
