Hi..First off...I have had Heather's first book for over a year and it has been a MAJOR help to me in getting my IBS under control. I was basically getting worse and worse and donnatol was the only thing that seemed to take some of the edge of severe bouts of cramping. Unbelievably severe bouts where i would practically pass out and sweat would be pouring down my face...this would go on for a few hours until my constipation would turn to diahrrea. (lovely thoughts, eh? ;) )
Improvements past 8 months: Well anyway...getting off milk products completely, going on metamucil before all meals, staying away from oily, fatty foods, avoiding whole wheat, bran, and most unfortunately i had to curtail vegatables for about 6 months with the occasional cooked soft carrots or cooked onions (steamed or microwaved)...i also went on metamucil and stopped with donnatol...i could start to eat veggies again...in small amounts carefully and now am quite a bit back to being able to tolerate veggies but not without some discomfort after eating... i found that gas was also causing me pain...and it the pain was stronger that it should have been (in a normal body)...i started testing soluble fiber alternatives mentioned here...benefiber....was not thrilled with that stuff.....and then i found that fibercon worked for me...and very little gas problems. (metamucil had become very uncomfortable for me)
ok....i am much better with no severe attacks in months...( i had been getting them once a week for a while)...
umm...now i want to get a colonoscopy as i am over 50 now...i am CONCERNED that the preparation or enema or whatever med they give you to clear the colon is going to send me into those SEVERE cramping pains... or maybe the instrument itself...i am a bit terrified of that....as far as the instrument going up my rectom, i can deal with that fine, it is just the unknown of how my sensitive gut is going to deal with a laxative...i am freaked!!!
does anyone have any experience or thoughts on this???
thx much...Dan
