LOL, Bev! We have a lovely healthy national diet don't we!!! (bangers,mash, kidney pudding etc).
Pilchards are fish - bit like sardines - this was a war-time staple food, tinned(canned) in tomato sauce and you eat them on toast - yummy yummy. You know, when we were on rations because we were fighting the Germans!!! But they're still around today and (now that I can eat toast again) it's back on my favourites list.
