Hello to all,

I'm in need of advice; I've had IBS-D for years, and had a very bad cycle of it about four years ago when I discovered Heather's books. I changed up my diet radically, got checked out by my doctor (diagnosed IBS-D & GERD), and was able to manage better.

Yet, as of late, my IBS-D is horrible. I am having such a bad flare that I can't seem to get under control. I can't eat anything at all without risking a painful attack. I'm in the bathroom for so long and missing out on quality time with my family. At work, I avoid eating anythng at all most of the time, to avoid the IBS attacks. I was drinking tea with agave nectar, and after reading more last night I found out that agave is a trigger. I take Levbid for the antispasmodic but during a flare like the one I'm having now, it doesn't really help.

I just don't know how to "reset" my digestive system to at least stop the IBS-D from taking over my life. I have off this week from work, and if I didn't, I would have missed three days due to this. I feel like a prisoner in my house.

I have not tried using fiber (Benefiber, etc.) so I would like some advice--should I try it now, during the flare? Will it make me constipated & only delay the D?

I can't drink the peppermint or fennel teas as the GERD is a daily problem. I do drink chamomile tea, and when I am not in a flare, I will have soy milk. Currently, I'm too sick for that and will stick to rice milk. I never have coffee, soda, fried foods, or red meat.

Because I haven't been this sick in a few years, I'm really rusty on how to begin this approach. Also, if I haven't had a GI check in a few years, should I follow up on that? How often do you have a colonoscopy?

Thanks for any help you can give. I am ready to try anything and I'm re-reading Heather's books for inspiration. I need some fast advice to try this week in order to get me stable enough to go back to work.

Thanks for listening. I feel really alone with this IBS even though I know I am not.
