A soluble fiber supplement is derived from natural food sources and it will definitely not ruin your intestines. If it works for you then it perhaps you will have to take for many years to come. That isn't a particularly bad thing given how benign these supplement are. Some people take upward of 25-30 grams a day with no ill effects.

Oatmeal is generally safe. Some people can handle ground flax seed on things like oatmeal too. It is something you will have to experiment with.
