Sometimes it isn't just trapped gas making you have bloating and distension but also spasms that bloat up areas of your intestines.
When you do have trapped gas and can't go for a walk, like when you are trying to sleep try this- kneel on your bed and then put everything but your butt on the bed so your butt is in the air. That helps get it out. A heating pad will calm down spasms a little but peppermint and fennel work well.
For someone with IBS you are still going to have gas even if you avoid what some people think are gas producing foods. However taking off the peel of things helps alot.

IBS-A for 20 years with terrible bloating and gas. On the diet since April 2004. Remember this from Heather's information pages:
"You absolutely must eat insoluble fiber foods, and as much as safely possible, but within the IBS dietary guidelines. Treat insoluble fiber foods with suitable caution, and you'll be able to enjoy a wide variety of them, in very healthy quantities, without problem." Please eat IF foods!
