some people who are prone to heartburn or reflux can't do peppermint, period. Some people do better with the caps because they're enteric coated and they can't tolerate mint directly in their stomach, as in the tea or peppermint candies.
But, some people find the caps too strong regardless, and they tolerate the tea and candies just fine.
There are so many variations here from person to person that I think it really comes down to trial and error. If you can't do the caps, try the tea. If you can't do the tea, try the caps. If you cannot tolerate peppermint at all, stick with fennel.
