Eating Soluble Fiber can cause gas. That's why, for example, Heather recommends starting with a small amount of Acacia each day and increasing your intake slowly. That lets your body figure out how to handle the SF as you go along.

Furthermore, part of IBS is visceral hypersensitivity which means our guts are annoyed more easily by things like gas pressure than are tummies belonging to non-IBSers.

So I'd say "Yes". If you take in more SF than you're used to the "overdose" can cause gas and your overly sensitive gut could react by spasming which could cause an attack.

Edited to add: I don't think this is likely to be a problem with eating SF foods just because it takes a lot of them to take in a lot of SF. Fiber supplements are more concentrated.
