Ruchie - Konsyl is psyllium, like Metamucil, so it's about 2/3 soluble fiber and 1/3 insoluble. For many IBS folks it can cause a lot of bloating and gas. For others (including me) it works just great with no problems at all.
There is no set dose of recommended fiber per day - the current FDA guidelines say to get between 25-35 grams per day, and 1/3 of that should be soluble. But many countries have a fiber intake of 60 grams, and even up to 80 grams, per day. In general, for just about all health concerns, the more fiber you eat the better. So, aim for the 35 grams as a daily minimum, with 1/3 of that soluble (from both foods and supplements). You can always increase from there if you like - just take things gradually.
