I've been searching for a cheap stimulant to help clean me out since nothing (not diet, not hypnotherapy, not giving up multivitamins, etc.) else helps my IBS-C. After being constipated for 3 days straight with my intestines so packed with you-know-what that I could barely bend my torso, I drank some coffee and shortly after had to go. Twice! I hate the taste of coffee and how it stains teeth, but it seems like the only OTC thing that works for me. I'm starting to envy people with IBS-D because at least they get cleared out on a daily basis... There really is such a big difference between the "C" and "D" types. With C, the gut is brain dead (very weak or nonexistent peristalsis). For me, it has ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with the types of foods I eat, even though this site claims it does. I can live on plain oatmeal for days (as I've tried before) and my gut becomes bloated and gassy and painful--even though oatmeal is supposed to be safe. And yes, I've been medically diagnosed with IBS.
