Do I really have IBS?

Around January of this year I started to have serious pains in my side. The pains got a lot worse when I was active at all - even walking a few blocks to work. I also began to have irregularities with my bowels - both C and D. In July I was in the hospital for 4 days with bowel obstruction - as my bowels had stopped working at all.

They ruled out every other possible cause, diagnosed me with IBS, told me to eat fiber daily and sent me home. From this point on the pain has been blinding. I did everything perfectly - my whole life was about eating right and doing things like relaxation and exercise to regulate and relieve the pain.

The only thing is the pain never went away. My bowels were regulated and have no other symptoms - just the crippling pain in my right side. After 2 months of this - a few weeks ago my doctor finally prescribed Morphine to help with the pain. And 1 day later - no pain at all until yesterday. Yesterday I forgot to take my morphine in the morning - and by the afternoon - blinding pain once again.

I'm eating a wider range of foods and I'm exercising and do not have any symptoms of IBS other than the pain when I accidently forget my morphine.

Is it possible that this pain is caused by something other than IBS? Is being on Morphine an acceptable long-term solution? The pain is so bad that I am terrified of going off of the Morphine, but I don't want to overlook a possible way to prevent the pain in the 1st place.
