I've had two done. The solution is by no means tasty, but it isn't the worst, either. The barium is actually more likely to cause C than D. Even if she doesn't have reflux, the test will indicate if she has problems with transit time (too fast or too slow), which is a good thing to know. I would see if you can be with her while she drinks the solution, if not while she's actually having the test done. I was fairly young when I had the first one done (15, maybe?) and my mom had to wait in the waiting room, and I remember being pretty scared.
