First of all the shotgun thing - not funny. But in all truth I understand how the pain and the changes in serotonin (which [you may know] is made in your gut and helps balance your moods) may cause you to feel drastic when the IBS upsets the balance. When I was feeling bad for a few months, I would cry over literally nothing, but being a psychology major helped me know where to find answers. As for the 'mess up', it's been hard for me not to do also (just last night I ate too much at one sitting (my husband even commented) and prayed to God to help me so that I wouldn't end up in pain, my prayers answered. But I wanted to mention that I know aleve may be an irritant that may be more destructive than helpful. As for the lactose intolerance, have you tried using lactaid? It seems to help me, I still only eat very little lactose foods (like parm cheese on a salad) but when I do use the lactaid, it has helped greatly ( I recommend the chews) and I carry them around in my purse at all times along with Heather's peppermint caps. I have gerd with the use of the caps, but if I'm hurting it helps calm my gut and so does the fennel and peppermint tea. I hope (and pray) you feel better (mind, body and spirit). When I'm going through a real bad day I just keep heating up the pad, call out of work, heat up teas, take caps and turn off the phone and watch the food network or something else that doesn't cause any (even subconscious stress) and forget the bills or the mail for a week oh and I play games like card games with hubby or something stupid on my ipod. The games help with serotonin levels. Lately I've also been doing the Align probiotic - and it seems to help allot. I pray. Please have peace that goes beyond your understanding, that you will get past this horrible day and see some improvement tomorrow and the next day. Be blessed and take care.
