IBS and colon resection surgery

On Sept.14, 07, I had a colonoscopy during which the doctor removed five polyps. One of them turned out to be malignant. I was advised to have a portion of my colon removed to make sure that no cancer cells remained.
I had the surgery on Oct. 10, 07. The name of the procedure is called, " lower anterior colon resection".
I have been home recovering for over five weeks now and I am having a lot of trouble with my colon and IBS.
I used to have IBS constipation type but had it under control as I followed Heather's advice. Now it seems to have switched the other way. I make frequent trips to the bathroom and experience a lot of cramping and urgency.
I have been following all the ten commandments, taking more acacia powder(I am up to 25mg/day), drinking a lot of hot strong pepperming tea and eating mostly soluble fiber but my colon is not responding as before. I also tried the pepperming oil caps but they don't seem to agree with me. I am certain that the fact that my colon is now 11.5cm shorter has a lot to do with it. I may just have to be patient but I was wondering if anybody had the same experience, what they did and how long it took to get back to normal??
