Hi, I'm brand new here. Since learning I had food allergies, and eliminating those foods from my diet, I achieved good control of lifelong problems with IBS. For two years after the allergy diet began, no attacks at all. Too good to last, sadly. Many things Heather recommends I discovered on my own, like SF being a friend, IF not so much, and it's nice to see them confirmed, so I know I wasn't crazy ! Some doctors thought I was for sure.

Main problem at this time is, if I must take antibiotics, it starts a cycle of extreme D that is hard to stop. I stick to the diet that usually works well for me, and take extra probiotics. My main SF source has been oat bran, and it has worked for me, but when this D strikes, to be able to leave the apartment for more than an hour or so, I end up back on Dicetel prescription and a lot of Immodium, and sometimes just not eating. Takes months to resolve an attack once begun by antibiotics. I have dry mouth, many damaged teeth and need extensive dental surgery. Will have to take a lot of antibiotics afterward. Currently still suffering after taking antibiotics for an extraction two months ago, and I dread what will happen after the major work is done.
Anyone have suggestions, to help ameliorate or avoid the antibiotic trigger problem, since avoiding the drugs is not an option. Have read about Acacia fiber, would it be likely to help, do you think ? Used to use psyllium, but it gave me gas like crazy, and with the oat bran, have not needed it for a long time. I'm allergic to moulds, and many modern antibiotics are mould derived, which may help explain the nasty reaction I get, but still, there is no practical way to avoid them in some instances. Any help or suggestions will be so greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Karen
