I've experienced D when taking ground flaxseed too, so I stopped adding that to foods. I tend more toward D than C, but I do get constipated as well and I try to eat foods that have a combination of SF and IF. Oatmeal is good, but I tend to do better with vegetables and legumes; whole grains tend to make me more D.
I think everyone has to figure out their own balance, but when I'm constipated I'll have a pumpkin smoothie (several are listed in the recipe index), incorporate sweet potatoes and squash, steamed carrots, eat more beans -- usually mashed, usually black beans (personal preference). I try to incorporate these foods regularly. I'm also lucky in that I can tolerate broccoli (cooked). Most people can't handle beans right away, but you might want to consider taking Beano or starting out with small amounts, with the understanding that you'll be gassy for the first week until your body adjusts to it.
