Hi Laurey, I take 3 and a half tablespoons of Acacia a day, divided into three doses of 1 tablespoon and half a teaspoon. I am IBS-C, pain predominant, and worked my way up to this amount gradually.
I agree, it can be more tricky to mix larger quantities of Acacia, but I have found that this method works best for me. I measure the amount of Acacia using a measuring spoon, and put it in a mug. I fill the mug about one quarter with water at room temp, stirring with a fork all the time. Then I fill up the mug with hot water (recently boiled but not boiling), taking care to stir vigorously all the time. I stir it again after letting it rest about a minute. This way, I find that the Acacia dissolves completely.
I have tried topping it up with hot herbal tea, but I prefer to drink the Acacia with just water - I find it quite soothing, especially with a high SF snack.
It is the only supplement that I have found really helpful after over 30 years of IBS - but I would stress, like others have, that you need to increase gradually until you find the dose that is right for you.
