For cost comparison, is it much different? For me, I'm taking BIO-K+ and it's costing me $86 (canadian) per month. It's expensive yes, but it is helping, so I say it's worth it. If the VSL isn't helping you then maybe look for a cheaper one.

I would look for a probiotic without any milk component. If you want you could try this but it may be harder to tell if it's helping or if the milk ingredient is causing problems.

For me, with foods that contain any milk ingredient in the list, I try to find an alternative that doesn't (ex: PC oatmeal vs Quaker oatmeal, I went to buy PC oatmeal packs but they have milk, so I bought Quaker which didn't). If I can't find a replacement, then I'll try the food and see how I do with it. This may not be so easy to 'try out' if you aren't stable.
