Well, some people get bloated and look pregnant just from their IBS symptoms, which usually get reduced by the introduction of Soluble Fiber. Haven't heard of someone getting so bloated from Soluble Fiber(SF).
When you add some SF you add a small amount to your stool so you don't end up with larger pants. It would show in the smalled sizes more considerably if such an effect existed. I am size 0-2(US size, European size that's about 40-42) and no such effect can be noticed.
The foods that have IF and SF actually have tiny amount of those two ingredients. People on this board call some foods "purely SF" just to note that they are entirely safe to eat, meaning they do not contain any IF or high amounts of fat. Thus, when you eat a food containing SF or IF you only eat a tiny amount of SF and IF and the starch gets digested in the small intestine (most of it). When you take Acacia, you take a more considerable amount, but just 1 teaspoon is 2 grams of fiber and the maximum dose recommended is about 24 grams A DAY. That is about 1/4 cup of Acacia. It won't be so much in your intestine.
All that might lead you think SF amounts are so little that they couldn't possibly help. That is a wrong conclusion, as per the experience of so many people here and not only here. The tiny amounts of SF have a big effect as do tiny amounts of IF (in a bad way for the IF, however).
The water, well your body needs water and uses most of it. What you don't use, you go and pee. Much smaller amounts sit in your bowels ![](/messageboards/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif)
Make sure you buy a SOLUBLE FIBER supplement (and not one that also has IF, Metamucil is an example of a bad choice). Acacia is great for example.
