I can't really explain about acacia vs starchy foods too well. Remember that all fiber supplements are SF (not broccoli and hay like on the commercials). It is refined, concentrated soluble fiber- rice and pasta have little grams of fiber.
But I can tell you that it makes your bm's smooth and easy and just perfect. You need the supplement along with water to bulk up the GI tract and give it something to do- something for its contractions to squeeze on. At least that is how I think of it.
