Heather, I would like to ask about the acacia fiber amounts. After 43 yrs of struggling with intestinal pain, I have been diagnosed with IBS (with constipation) this past year after the usual tests. I also ordered the acacia powder from your very helpful website. I started with 1/2 teas as you recommended, but no real change. I also read your helpful book, The First Year, and realized my current doctor was not being very helpful except to suggest more fiber. Your advice on finding another doctor gave me courage to try again. My system does not function well on the traditional fibers, and I know I am not alone. In finding another doctor just this past month, we are embarking together on testing the functionality (or lack thereof) of my intestinal system. On the docs advice, I again tried a powdered fiber, not acacia, and after three days of pain, severe headache and bloating, threw the fiber away. I kept away from the milk of magnesia I turned to in my desperation (constipation plays a big part in my ibs) and tried your acacia powder at an increased amount. It is a little tricky to blend the powder in juice or tea with larger amounts. I have been on the acacia for 5 days now and decided to try four teaspoons at each meal(three meals a day). Sounds like a lot, but I needed it. I am now doing 3-1/2 tablespoons a day and actually had some movement today. I still have the cramps going on, but at 5-7 on the pain scale instead of 10. My headaches have almost gone away, and I am also eating rice crispies with silk for snacks. Lots of liquids and some mild exercise are definately necessary to keep things moving.I tried to take the powder in liquid on empty stomach, but received gas and indigestion. I was wondering if my level of acacia powder was safe at this point and how to more effectively mix it without lumps. I tend to slowly pour a teaspoon at a time and use a small whisk to smooth things. There definately is no product on the local market like the acacia powder. Thanks for all you are doing and giving. My new doc is suggesting Zelnorm for my constipation, but I hate pills, and after reading the comments on Zelnorm I am considering trying celexa instead. Any thoughts you can share would be helpful and thank you again for your great site. I dont feel so alone anymore. Noodles really help too. Laurey.
