I really don't think any doctor would do this on someone who has no disease of the bowel. IBS has no affect on the health of your bowel, so there is no point in taking it out from a medical perspective. Taking it out so that you don't have to deal with symptoms is a pretty drastic move. I do understand where you are coming from, but all other options should be considered before thinking about a colectomy. If you can manage your IBS symptoms then that is the healthier option. If you have a colectomy there are many other serious health risks. It is also a huge lifestyle change.

If you do know someone who had it done, did they have IBS only? Or did they have an IBD. Maybe you should consider talking to them about what their day is like now, if they have medications to take, how they eat, and what new problems they have had to deal with.
