Yep it's safe. It actually says on the Acacia product page that "Pure soluble fiber supplements are helpful not just for IBS, but also for inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) such as Crohn's and Ulcerative Colitis, plus diverticulosis and diverticulitis. "

Note that this is a PREbiotic, that is, it may help the effectiveness of a probiotic. Your friend should continue taking her probiotic.
